-REVIVAL TIME RADIO-

Station History

Founded in 1993 by the late John Forwood (producer of "My Kind of Country Gospel " Programs for East Coast FM & Community Radio Stations) and Pstr. Douglas G. Allen (AOJCA)(Licenced Radio Engineer) as a Christian Resource Only" Community Radio Station.

RTR94.9FM Commenced On-Air Tests in December 1993 as the Upper Murray Community Gospel Broadcasters Assn. Inc. (UMCGBA) From a Caravan Studio at Berringama. 30km West of Corryong with a UHF Radio link to the FM Transmitter on Mt Mittamatite.

The Station commenced Broadcasting on a frequency of 94.7 Mhz in February 1994 under the original Temporary Community Broadcasting Plan of 90 Days per Year. We chose 3 blocks of 30 Days On-Air Broadcasting spaced across the year.

The Frequency being changed to 94.9Mhz in 1995 at the request of the Australian Broadcasting Authority.

Original Presenters were John Forwood, Pstr. Douglas Allen & Assoc. Pstr. Carol Allen.

Format at that time was Traditional/Country Gospel Music with Accredited Teaching Syndicated Programs. Insight for Living etc.

Transmitter Power was approx 250 watts ERP.

The Caravan Studio was transferred to the AOJCA "Embassy" property in Corryong in approx August 1996 when John Forwood was unable to continue broadcasting due to illness.

In October 1996 John Forwood was "Promoted to Glory".

In March 1997, circumstances relating to the Forwood Estate necessitated the replacement of 75% of the Station and Studio equipment & Resource library. A task undertaken solely by Ambassadors of Jesus Inc. Christian Assemblies, who now provide and maintain the Studio & Station Equipment &Transmitters.

During 1997 the Federal Government recognized the un-profitability of short term test broadcasting in areas with one aspirant broadcaster and amended the Act. to allow Continuous Operation for 24hrs/7Days a week if desired.

In order to remove considerable Listener Confusion relating to our On-Air ID. "Upper Murray Gospel Radio", caused by a secular aspirant station in a near region, and the necessity to re-constitute the Station and its Registered Location, in late1997, provided the opportunity to move to an Incorporated Title that more effectively reflected the Overall Original Vision for the Station.

"High Country Christian Broadcasters Assn. Inc". was chosen, with the On-Air ID. of "Revival Time Radio 94.9FM" (RTR94.9FM).

With the commencement of 24/7 Broadcasting from a New Transportable Studio in Corryong at the end of 1997, the current broadcast format of "Contemporary Gospel/Country Gospel" successfully trialed in 1996, was adopted.

The subsequent provision by The Lord, of Back-Up Equipment and Higher Powered Transmitters, has enabled RTR94.9FM to increase coverage of the entire region to approx 15,000 SqKm and beyond in some directions. The Station is now Transmitting with an Effective Radiated Power of 1000 Watts. Our "Spot Coverage into the "Lowlands" Cities of Albury/Wodonga is expected to be increased to "General Coverage" for the 50,000 population, as well as strengthening coverage in existing reception areas, when we are enabled/funded to do a Maintenance Upgrade of our 20 year old, Hills Wind-Up Aerial Mast.

Since May 2000, our earlier difficulty in the provision of "Up to Date" broadcast material has been totally reversed by The Lord, and we now have a constantly increasing flow of Christian Music & Program Resource from both National & International Christian & Non Christian Sources.

Revival Time Radio 94.9FM is now listed in Nashville. Tennessee. USA. as One of Two Top Christian Country Gospel Radio Stations in Australia.

The RTR Studio, now has 4 hour UPS Back-Up Power facilities, (to overcome the regional breakdowns of the TXU 140Km electricity supply line), thanks to the helpful assistance of Powerware-Sola Corp. with a new 3Kva UPS (Un-interruptable Power Supply).

We do not have, Back-Up Electricity Supply for our Mt. Mittamatite Transmitter Building, at present, this being our only "Weak Link" in an otherwise "Continuous service".

An Auto Start, Diesel Generator of approx 3.5KVA 3 Phase. Capacity is required to cover the occasions when the facility TXU Mains Supply is cut by Failure or Lightening.

A similar unit of 5.5KVA (minimum) is also required in Corryong, to cover extended Power Failure periods for the RTR Studio, Office and the Regional Internet POP. hosted by Revival Time Radio 94.9FM to provide our On-Line Network & Internet service.

Provision of Fail-Safe Electricity Supply for our Corryong Facilities will enable Full Internet Services to be maintained for All Subscribers of the Region who are not effected by Power Failure in Corryong Township and also Uninterrupted Broadcasting for RTR94.9FM.
